You have placed your faith in the Bible, now learn about the
fascinating journey of how the Old and New Testaments were
passed down to us today – from how they were written and
collected to how they were amazingly and accurately preserved
so our generation could read God’s Word.
This course is an introduction to the Bible and an explanation
of how we received it. It is designed for both those who have
little background in the Scriptures and as an enlightening study
for seasoned Christians who have read the Bible for years.
Much information will be presented that we guarantee will be
new information to most believers. This topic is a huge one.
We have attempted to condense the information for you while
still providing in-depth subject matter for both Testaments.
Some may mistakenly think that since Christ replaced the Old
Testament with the New Testament that they can pass over
the Old Testament, which makes up almost three-quarters of
the Bible. How can we neglect 75% of divinely inspired teaching?
The Bible is a progressive revelation. Just as with any book, if
you don’t read the first three-quarters of it you’ll not adequately
understand the characters, the plot, the theme, and the ending.
We need to esteem and study the Old Testament because it lays
the foundation for the teachings and events found in the New
Testament. This is one main reason why we have combined
these two courses into one.
Learn the process of how we got the Bible so that you can
intelligently defend why you believe the Bible to be the inspired
Word of God, and so your faith in it will not be shaken when
unbelievers attack the Bible’s authenticity.
Meet some of the dedicated, courageous heroes who have made
the Bible available to us – those who tediously labored long and
hard in uncomfortable conditions comparing Biblical manuscripts
and translating and copying the Scriptures into various languages –
and those who shed their blood to make it a reality.
This series on how we got the Bible is divided into two separate
courses – one on How We Got the Old Testament (BIB 201), which
is a prerequisite for taking How We Got the New Testament (BIB 202).
You get two courses (19 lessons and 11 exams) plus the DVD
“textbook” Discovering the Bible (a $20 value used for both
courses) – all for one low price! The DVD will be automatically
shipped to you when you order the two courses. Don't start the
O.T. course until you receive it.
The DVD is a multi-award winning presentation by Christian History
Institute consisting of four half hour programs. Animations, film clips,
reenactments, interviews, and other film techniques are used to hold
one’s attention.
Total course length (not counting exams):
